CallRail UX content guidelines, condensed
A resource designed to make CallRail’s new UX content guidelines accessible and useful for cross-functional partners (UX Design, PMs, Engineers, Product Marketing, etc.)
Background
In early 2022, CallRail was looking to elevate content as a design practice and deepen the role of UX content in the overall Product organization. I was hired as a UX content lead to help drive this change, and one of my primary tasks was the creation of a content design system. A key step in this work was creating and socializing UX content guidelines.
The story of this document
My content design system work began with a survey of existing, internal content resources, especially those of the Brand team. The content design manager and I also began regular syncs with the Brand team to establish shared understanding of the goals and needs for our new guidelines.
The survey and syncs were a springboard for building UX content team-facing guidelines to ensure alignment across our team. Once the UX content team was aligned (which didn’t take long), I realized the next step in deepening adoption of these new UX content standards was to make sure that our cross-functional partners had an opportunity to understand our new approach and why it mattered.
The result of that work was this document, which lived in Confluence and became a staple for Product Managers and Engineers.
